Asphalt Shingles

In the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area, approximately 95% of residential homes have asphalt shingle roofs, making them the most popular and cost-effective roofing option. The most commonly installed shingles are 30-year architectural styles, such as GAF Timberline and Owens Corning Duration, known for their durability and dimensional appearance. Most asphalt shingle roof replacements can be completed in just one day, and homeowners can choose from a wide variety of colors and styles to complement their home.

Metal Roof Installation

Metal roofing offers a 50-year standard warranty and is designed to last 50 years or more—often making it the last roof you’ll ever need. In that same timeframe, a typical asphalt roof may need to be replaced two to three times. Built for durability, metal roofs are impact resistant and can withstand hail under 2 inches, which may qualify for potential insurance discounts. They perform as quietly as asphalt and are available in a wide variety of styles and colors to complement any home.

Synthetic / Composite Roofing

Made from advanced composite materials that are stronger and longer-lasting than traditional asphalt shingles. Engineered for both durability and curb appeal, it offers superior resistance to the elements with little to no maintenance. When combined with a 50-year warranty, it provides a long-term, worry-free roofing solution. Many systems feature Class 4 impact resistance, which may qualify homeowners for reduced insurance premiums. Available in styles that mimic asphalt shingles, cedar shake, slate, or Spanish tile, metal roofing delivers both performance and aesthetic versatility.

Storm Damage Repair

Minnesota storms can bring hail, high winds, heavy rain, and ice that may compromise your roof—sometimes without obvious signs from the ground. Our team specializes in identifying storm-related damage and helping homeowners navigate the insurance claim process from inspection through completion.

Roofing Components

Underlayment
Ice & Water Shield
A self-adhering waterproof membrane installed directly to the roof decking. It seals around nails and prevents water from reaching the wood if it gets under the shingles.

Typically installed at:

  • At least 6′ up from all eaves
  • In roof valleys
  • Where the roof meets a wall
  • Around chimneys, pipes, and skylights

Synthetic Underlayment
A woven, plastic-based material that replaces traditional felt paper.

  • Stronger and more tear-resistant
  • Lightweight and wrinkle-free
  • Better UV protection
  • Cleaner installation

Metal Components
Valley Metal
Installed where two roof slopes meet—one of the most common leak areas.

  • Directs water safely down the roof
  • Protects a high-risk leak area

Drip Edge & Gutter Apron
Metal installed along roof edges.

  • Protects roof decking and fascia
  • Directs water into the gutter
  • Gutter apron is used at eaves to extend water directly into the gutter

Step, Wall & Kick-Out Flashing
L-shaped metal installed where the roof meets walls, chimneys, or dormers.

  • Directs water onto the shingle below
  • Prevents leaks at roof-to-wall transitions

Ventilation
Proper roof ventilation allows air to enter at the soffits (intake) and exit at the roof peak (exhaust). This helps:

  • Reduce moisture buildup
  • Minimize frost and ice dams
  • Extend shingle life
  • Improve energy efficiency

Ridge Vents
Continuous vent installed along the roof peak.

  • Provides even airflow
  • Low profile, clean appearance
  • More efficient than box vents

Box Vents
Individual square vents installed near the ridge.

  • Simple solution
  • Ideal for smaller roof sections

Additional Roofing Components
Starter Shingles
Installed along eaves and rakes as the first row.

  • Seals the edge of the roof
  • Helps prevent wind damage

Hip & Ridge Shingles
Specially designed shingles installed on roof peaks and hips.

  • Seal high-exposure areas
  • Enhance overall appearance
  • Thicker and stronger than standard shingles for better wind resistance

Property Protection during your Roof Replacement

At Limitless Exteriors, protecting your home is just as important as installing your new roof. That’s why we use a combination of tarps, plywood, and the professional Catch-All system to safeguard your property throughout the project.

What is the Catch-All system?
The Catch-All system uses durable PVC poles and heavy-duty mesh tarps that are leaned against the home and sloped toward the ground. This creates a controlled “ramp” that directs shingles and debris safely down and away from the house.

What it does:

  • Catches shingles before they hit the ground
  • Prevents nails from getting buried in grass or mulch
  • Protects plants, shrubs, decorative rock, decks, and hardscapes
  • Shields siding and windows from scratches

Why it matters:

  • Reduces loose nails — the #1 cleanup issue after re-roofs
  • Safer for children and pets
  • Improves job-site safety
  • Minimizes liability and protects your property
